In 1988, a steering committee of eight Saint Cloud citizens, who were concerned about the lack of decent, affordable housing, applied to start a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity to serve the needs of families in Central Minnesota. In 1989, we were granted affiliate status, and we began the construction of our first Habitat home in St. Cloud. Our first Partner Family purchased the home in 1990.
Since then, CMHFH has placed 71 families - about 2/3 of them children - in homes of their own. Additionally, CMHFH's international tithing program has helped build over 79 homes in Costa Rica, Paraguay, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
A Brush With Kindness, initiated in 2010, is an exterior home preservation program that provides painting, landscaping and minor repair services for homeowners in need serving five families in the St. Cloud community.
CMHFH has experience growth since its inception and strives to increase our capacity to serve more families in the four county area.
