Sherri Bauer's Story

Before their Habitat home, Sherri and her four children had to share a floor in her parent's house. Her son John, who is 9 years old, had to sleep on the floor in her bedroom while the other three girls, ages 12 to 15, had to share one room. They had their own bathroom, but had to share the kitchen. Luckily, they had a room in which the kids could play.

Sherri was approved to buy a Habitat home in 2008. When she found out that she was selected she said, "We were so happy that some of us started to cry. It has been a dream of mine for the last 15 years to be able to have a house for the kids to play and be able to have friends over." She worked hard on her 200 sweat equity hours and her family helped by baking cookies for affiliate events, working on bulk mailings and walking dogs for the Humane Society. Sherri also painted on other Habitat homes.

Their home has allowed the children to have their own space, room to play and even to invite friends for sleepovers. They now have their own kitchen to bake cookies in!

Sherri would like to say something to all the Habitat volunteers, "A Big Thank You! If it wasn't for you guys a lot of people wouldn't be able to get into a house of their own." Her and her family closed on their house in June of 2010.
