General Construction Volunteer

Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity uses volunteer labor to build homes with low-income families. Construction Volunteers participate in the building of homes at most stages of construction.

Skills
Construction experience is useful, but a willingness to help is the only requirement.

Age Requirements

Federal regulations prohibit children under the age of 14 to be on site. For children ages 14-15, they are not allowed on site during construction but can engage in limited activities such as clean-up, landscaping, or painting. For children ages 16-17, they can be on site during construction, but are also limited to clean-up, landscaping, and painting. All volunteers under the age of 18 must have an adult supervisor at the ratio of 2-3 students per adult.

Time Commitment
Volunteers are asked to work the full day, but half-day shifts are often offered. Regular workday shifts are 8am to noon and 1pm to 5pm.  Lunch is not provided.  Volunteers are welcome to bring a lunch with them or can leave the site during the noon hour.

Training and Supervision
Construction training will occur on-site under the skilled Team Leader.  Volunteers are not asked to do tasks that make them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
