Office - Front Desk

Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity uses volunteers to sit at our front desk to answer the phone and greet incoming visitors.

Responsibilities

-Answering the phone and directing calls.
-Greeting incoming visitors and notifying staff.

-Giving resource information to persons interested in volunteering or homeownership, or in need of housing that we are unable to provide.

Optional Responsibilities
If a volunteer has the desire and abilities, the Front Desk Volunteer can also do data entry and office tasks (such as mailings) during the quiet moments of the day, but this is not required.  Otherwise, the Front Desk Volunteer is welcome to bring a book or a small project to do at the desk.

Volunteer Impact
Front Desk Volunteers have the unique and valuable opportunity to experience many aspects of Habitat's organization. The biggest impact Front Desk Volunteers make is the amount of time they save our staff by playing a vital role in being the person of first-contact.  The volunteer may be the first person a potential homebuyer, volunteer, or donor speaks with!

Skills
-Polite and courteous phone and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to follow simple instructions.
-Neat appearance and professional behavior.

Time Commitment

-Commit to six shifts or more.  We prefer volunteers that will be ongoing so that volunteers do not need to be re-trained.  These shifts can be at your own pace (i.e. multiple times a week, once a week, or once every other week).
-Shift times are 9am - noon and 1-4pm on Wednesdays through Fridays, plus Tuesday afternoon.

Training and Supervision
On-site training and assistance is provided by an Administrative Assistant.
