Meet Our New Habitat Family!
The couple has been together for 14 years and has raised Jan's grandson, Hunter, a student at Apollo High School. Mark works at Beaver Island Brewery with his sons, who are owners of the business. Jan is employed by Lutheran Social Services and does direct support work with their clients.
"God, family, service" were Mark and Jan's words describing their family values and strong beliefs. Mark expressed his appreciation for Jan's generosity and caring attitude. Jan stated that Mark "grounds" her and is trustworthy and kind. The couple likes to garden and spend time together with Hunter. Jan is an avid reader and usually averages five books per week. Mark dabbles in woodworking and enjoys hunting and fishing with his brothers.
Mark is proud to have served in the army for six years. He was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado and served as a Military Police Officer. His duties included training military officers who were going to Vietnam and assisting in relocating refugees from Saigon. Mark was deeply affected by the stories told by returning soldiers. His older brothers also served in the Vietnam war.
The family is very excited for the opportunity to own a home through Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity. They are looking forward to the privacy and space their new home will provide. Mark and Jan expressed gratitude on behalf of their family to everyone who has and continues to be a part of the journey to their new home.
We bring people together to build homes, dignity, and a bright future through affordable homeownership.
