About Us

For over 30 years, Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity has built houses for and with our neighbors in need. A Habitat home is a symbol of hope and connectedness in our community, and it creates ripples of kindness and understanding that extend far beyond its walls.

Vision
Everyone in Central Minnesota has a decent place to live, at a price they can afford

Mission
Gathering communities to transform lives through affordable homeownership

Values
Partnership: Partnerships are the foundation of our work.
Empowerment: Empowering families to succeed as they live in stable home environments.
Dignity: Dignity and respect are achieved by everyone working together.
Faith: Faith put into action, providing opportunities for all people.

CMHFH History
In 1988, eight St. Cloud citizens who were concerned about the lack of decent, affordable housing in the area applied to start a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International to serve the needs of families in Central Minnesota. In 1989 we were granted affiliate status and we began the construction of our first Habitat home in St. Cloud. Our first Partner Family purchased the home in 1990.

Since then, we have sold houses to 104 families – about 2/3 of them with children. Additionally, we have built almost 100 homes in Costa Rica, Paraguay, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

We have experienced continuous growth, and are always trying to increase our capacity to serve more families in the four-county area.

About HFH International
Since its founding in 1976, Habitat For Humanity International (HFHI) has been a nonprofit, ecumenical housing ministry, open to all people with a mission of eliminating poverty housing across the globe and making simple, decent, affordable shelter for all people a priority for everyone.

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Its vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

HFHI and its affiliates have built or remodeled more than 800,000 homes, housing more than 4 million people in nearly 100 countries. To learn more about HFHI, visit their website.

HFHI and its affiliates are “a hand up, not a handout.” We purposefully work in partnership with qualified applicants, who also contribute to the organizations in a number of ways. Selected homebuyers not only pay back their no-interest loan, but each household must also provide 200 hours of “sweat equity” as a part of purchasing their home.

For more information on who qualifies or how to apply for a home with CMHFH, please visit the HOMEOWNERSHIP SECTION of our website.

All Are Welcome
HFHI and CMHFH have an open-door policy: all who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and serve people in need of decent housing regardless of those distinctions.

As a matter of policy, HFHI and its affiliate organizations will not proselytize. Nor will Habitat work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with Habitat. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Equal housing opportunity

We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.
