Leave Your Legacy in YOUR Community

Planned Giving includes many types of gifts that are made during your life or upon your death. The most

common planned gift on death is the bequest. Your attorney can include bequest language in your last

will or living trust that directs a specific asset, total dollar amount or percentage from your residual

estate to be given to Central Minnesota Habitat For Humanity (CMHFH). Your bequest may also include

instructions for the specific use of your gift.  Another common type of planned gift on death is a

beneficiary designation under your retirement plan, IRA, annuity, or life insurance. These are easy to

make and generally can be changed anytime before you die. Because you retain the right to revoke

these planned gifts before your death, you don’t receive a current income tax charitable deduction.

Certain types of planned gifts can be made during your lifetime, but CMHFH won’t receive the money or

property until your death. Examples of lifetime planned gifts are life estates on your house, transfers of

the ownership of a life insurance policy, or gifts to charitable remainder trusts (CRTs). In a CRT, you

retain an income stream for your life or a term of years (20 years or less), and the remainder passes to

CMHFH at the end of that period.  These lifetime planned gifts are irrevocable and offer a current

income tax charitable deduction for a portion of the value of the property donated.

Contact your attorney or investment advisor to see how a planned gift to Central Minnesota

Habitat For Humanity will impact your estate plan.

Equal housing opportunity

We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.
